Brown Leads on Economy, Education, and Infrastructure

Horwath leads on the Environment

Toronto, June 19th – In a random sampling of public opinion taken by The Forum Poll™ among 1003 Ontario voters, Patrick Brown is generally seen as the strongest on most issues, with Andrea Horwath or leading or tied in half the areas; Kathleen Wynne is not seen to be the best in any area.

Brown leads on the economy, building infrastructure, and education, and is statistically tied with Horwath on trust and healthcare.

In addition to being tied with Brown on trust and healthcare, Horwath also leads on environment.

Kathleen Wynne’s strongest result is in education, but she is still behind the other two leaders in this category.

Brown way ahead on economy

The plurality, more than 4-in-10 (42%) see Patrick Brown as the leader best for Ontario`s economy. Only (17%) see Andrea Horwath as the best economic steward, while even fewer (13%) see Kathleen Wynne in that way. More than a quarter (28%) say they do not know.

Horwath and Brown statistically tied on healthcare

Andrea Horwath (30%) holds a slim lead over Patrick Brown (28%) on healthcare, but the lead is within the margin of error and therefore represents a statistical tie. Just more than 1 in 10 (13%) see Kathleen Wynne as best for Ontario`s healthcare system.

Tied with Horwath, and statistically tied with Brown, almost a third (30%) say they do not know which leader would be best on healthcare.

Horwath ahead on the environment

Andrea Horwath (30%) holds a lead over Patrick Brown (25%) on the environment. Kathleen Wynne (12%) is not seen as strong on the environment.

The plurality (33%) though, isn`t sure which leader is best for the environment.

Brown leads on education

Patrick Brown (32%), amongst the three leaders, is clearly seen as the frontrunner on education. Horwath (22%) and Wynne (18%) are both well back, but Wynne`s numbers in education are her best of the policy areas surveyed.

Almost a third (29%) do not know who would be best for education.

Brown best on building infrastructure

Patrick Brown (37%) has a strong lead over his two main rivals on infrastructure, with Andrea Horwath (16%) and Kathleen Wynne (15%) well behind the leading Brown.

A third (33%) do not know which leader would be best on infrastructure.

Few trust Wynne

Patrick Brown (30%) and Andrea Horwath (29%) are statistically tied on most trusted leader. Kathleen Wynne (10%) performs worse on trust than any other category.

“Patrick Brown is seen as the strongest leader on a number of issues, with Andrea Horwath competitive in some categories as well. Kathleen Wynne is far behind in every category, particularly trust. The one bright spot for Wynne and Horwath is that a considerable proportion of voters have not yet made up their minds on who`s best in each area and so potentially there`s room to grow,” said Dr. Lorne Bozinoff, President of Forum Research.
