Watson and Bordeleau Equally Popular

Popularity unchanged since May

In a random sampling of public opinion taken by the Forum Poll™ among 862 Ottawa voters, as many as three quarters approve of the jobs being done by both Mayor Jim Watson (74%) and Chief of Police Charles Bordeleau (74%). In May of this year, when we last polled, they were similarly matched (73% each).

Mayor Watson is especially popular with the youngest (82%), females (79%) more than males (70%), the wealthiest ($80K to $250K - 77%), renters (77%), mothers of children under 18 (81%), the best educated (post grad - 80%), provincial Liberals (85%) and New Democrats (78%) but not PC supporters so much (59%) and those who would like to see marijuana dispensaries regulated and zoned, rather than shut down (79%). Chief Bordeleau is especially popular among Gen X (45 to 54 - 78%), females (80%) more than males (67%), among renters (77%), moms (80%), those who approve of the mayor as well (80%), provincial Liberals (79%), but not so much PCs (66%) or New Democrats (69%) and among Francophones (81%).

“Both Toronto and Ottawa give consistently high marks to their current mayors, so these cities are presumably happy with their governance, but it is not as common to see a Police Chief with such high approvals” said Forum Research President, Dr. Lorne Bozinoff.
