Tory’s approval up

Two-thirds approve of Ford’s withdrawal

 

Toronto, February 9th – In a random sampling of public opinion taken by The Forum Poll™ among 977 Toronto voters, more than half (58%) say they approve of the job John Tory is doing as mayor. Just over one-quarter (28%) say they disapprove, with one-sixth (14%) saying they do not know.

 

Tory’s approval is up 5 points since November (Nov 24: 53%) but his disapproval is effectively unchanged (Nov 24: 30%), as is the proportion of those that say they do not know (Nov 24: 16%).

 

 


Respondents most likely to say they approve of Tory include those aged 55-64 (65%) or 65+ (67%), the most wealthy (66%), with a college/university degree (60%) or a post-graduate degree (63%), living downtown (62%), or in North York (61%) or East York (n=88) (61%), and supporting the Liberals (67%).

 

Respondents most likely to say they disapprove of Tory include those aged 34 and younger (31%), 35-44 (30%), or 45-54 (28%), males (34%), with some college/university (32%), living in Etobicoke (39%), and supporting the PCs (38%).

 

  

Half strongly approve of Ford’s withdrawal

 

Two-thirds (TOP2: 63%) say they approve of Ford’s withdrawal from the mayor’s race, with half (50%) saying they approve strongly.


One-sixth (15%) say they disapprove, with about half of those doing so strongly (7%).

 

2 in 10 (19%) say they neither approve nor disapprove.

 

Respondents most likely to say they approve (TOP2) of Ford’s withdrawal include those aged 65+ (72%), the most wealthy (69%), with a post-graduate degree (74%), living in East York (n=88)(72%), and supporting the Liberals (72%) or NDP (74%).

 

Respondents most likely to disapprove include those aged 34 and younger (16%) or 35-44 (18%), males (18%), earning $80,000-$100,000 (24%), the least educated (19%) or with some college/university (21%), living in Etobicoke (17%) or York (n=60)(18%) and supporting the PCs (18%).
