One Half See Clinton as Best U.S.
President
Fewer than one fifth support
Donald Trump
In a random sampling of
public opinion taken by the Forum Poll™ among 1370 Canadians, one half think
Hillary Clinton is best suited to be elected U.S. president in November (48%),
while just fewer than a fifth think Donald Trump is the best choice (16%).
Fewer than a twentieth support either Dr. Jill Stein or Gary Johnson (6% each).
One quarter of Canadians have not made up their minds (23%).
Hillary Clinton has the
support of the oldest (57%), females (54%) rather than males (42%), mid income
groups ($40K to $60K - 56%), in Quebec (62%), among Liberals (69%), mothers
(55%) and the best educated (55%).
Donald Trump is especially
preferred by the youngest (under 35 - 21%), males (23%), the least wealthy and
the wealthiest (19% each), in Alberta (24%), among Conservatives (39%, compared
to 26% for Clinton) and among the least (20%) and most educated (21%). Donald
Trump finds his highest ethnic support among Eastern Europeans (33%) and blacks
(34% - caution: small base sizes).
“It is curious to see the
polarities of response engendered by Donald Trump. The richest and the poorest,
the best and least educated, these apparently opposite groups share an affinity
for the Republican candidate’s bluster. Other groups favouring his candidacy
are more predictable from a partisan viewpoint" said Forum Research
