Majority find
Premier’s Supplemented Salary Inappropriate
Almost 7-in-10 disagree with the practice
Toronto, March 3rd – In a random sampling of public opinion taken by The Forum Poll™ among
1,061 British Columbia voters, the majority (69%) find the fact that the
premier’s salary is supplemented by political donations provided by the Liberal
Party inappropriate. Only (17%) consider the practice appropriate, while (14%)
respond they don’t know.
Those most likely to
consider the supplemented salary inappropriate are female (72%), those who earn
$40,000-$60,000 (78%), live on Vancouver Island (73%), and support the NDP
(82%).
Those most likely to
condone the supplemented salary are male (22%) and support the Liberal Party
(36%).
“Ending the so-called
salary top-up was a smart political move by Premier Clark, given how many
voters find the practice inappropriate. The only question that remains is how
much the premier’s reputation was tarnished, given how long the issue was
allowed to fester in the media,” said Dr. Lorne Bozinoff, President
