The Majority of Calgary Transit Users are Satisfied

Toronto, May 29th, 2019 - In a random sampling of public opinion taken by the Forum Poll™ among 1936 randomly selected transit users in Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, and Montreal 16 years of age and older, amongst those transit riders in Calgary, the majority (TOP2: 70%) say they are satisfied with Calgary transit. A fifth (19%) say they are very satisfied and half (51%) say they are somewhat satisfied.

Almost a third (BTM2: 30%) are not satisfied, while about 1 in 10 few (7%) say they are very dissatisfied.

Calgary Transit users split on whether enough is being done to expand public transit

About half (53%) of Calgary Transit users don’t think enough is being done to expand public transit to accommodate Calgary’s future population growth.

A similar proportion (47%) say they think enough is being done.

The majority of users say the Calgary Transit system is clean

The majority (TOP2: 83%) of users say the Calgary transit system is clean, 3 in 10 (29%) say very clean. Almost half (54%) say somewhat clean.

A sixth (BTM2: 17%) say the transit system is not clean, few (6%) say not clean at all.

7 in 10 say Calgary Transit service is frequent

7 in 10 (TOP2: 69%) say the service provided by Calgary transit is frequent, a sixth (18%) say very frequent. Half (51%) say somewhat frequent.

A third (BTM2: 31%) say the service is not frequent, few (7%) say the service is not frequent at all.

8 in 10 say Calgary Transit is reliable

8 in 10 (TOP2: 78%) say the service provided by Calgary transit is reliable, 3 in 10 (28%) say very reliable. Half (50%) say somewhat reliable.

A fifth (BTM2: 22%) say the service is not reliable, few (7%) say the service is not reliable at all.

Almost two thirds say their travel on Calgary Transit is not often impacted by unexpected delays

Almost two thirds (BTM2: 63%) say their travel on Calgary Transit is not often impacted by delays, a quarter (23%) say not often at all. 4 in 10 (40%) say not very often.

Over a third (TOP2: 37%) say unexpected delays often impact their travel, few (6%) say very often.

Majority say the Calgary Transit provides good value for money

Majority (TOP2: 74%) say the Calgary Transit provides good value for money, a quarter (24%) say very good value. Half (50%) say somewhat good value.

A quarter (BTM2: 26%) say not good value, few (6%) say not good value at all.

8 in 10 say other Calgary Transit riders are courteous

8 in 10 (TOP2: 79%) say other Calgary Transit riders are courteous, while a fifth (21%) say they are very courteous.

A fifth (BTM2: 21%) say other riders are not courteous, while only a few (6%) say they are not courteous at all.

“Overall, Calgary Transit users are pleased with the system, providing positive scores for overall satisfaction, cleanliness, and value, amongst others.” said Dr. Lorne Bozinoff, President of Forum Research. “About half say that Calgary isn’t doing enough to expand for future population growth, which is a number that if left unaddressed, will only grow moving forward.”
