Quebec’s plurality support assisted dying for Alzheimer’s
Toronto, June 14th – In a random sampling of public
opinion taken by The Forum Poll™ among 1471 Quebec voters, the majority (70%)
completely support expanding assisted dying for people with conditions like Alzheimer's
disease. One-fifth (18%) somewhat support, a few (6%) do not really support,
and another few (5%) do not support at all.
Respondents who completely support expanding assisted dying for
people with Alzheimer's include those aged 18-34 (73%) and 35-44 (76%), those
earning $250k+ (89%), those living in Quebec City (82%), and those voting for
the QS (78%).
Respondents who somewhat support expanding assisted dying for people
with Alzheimer’s include those aged 45 and above (18% of those 45-54, 19% of
those 55-64, and 21% of those 65+), males (19%), those earning $20k-$40k (23%),
those voting for the Liberals (21%) and other parties (24%).
Respondents who do not really support include those aged 65+ (10%),
those earning $20k-$40k (13%), those voting for the Liberals (11%), and the
undecided (11%).
“There is
profound support for this measure regardless of respondents’ different socio-demographic
standings” said Dr. Lorne Bozinoff, President of Forum Research. “However, the
younger and the wealthier support the measure in even more resounding numbers.”
