PC and Liberals Tied
in Toronto
Toronto, October 11th
– In a random sampling of public opinion taken by The Forum Poll™ among 813 Toronto
voters, amongst those decided and leaning, just over one-third (36%) say they
would support the Progressive Conservatives, while a third (33%) say they would
support the Liberals, a statistical tie.
Almost a quarter (23%)
say they would support the NDP, while fewer than one in ten (6%) say they would
support the Green Party, with (2%) saying they would support another party.
Respondents most likely to say that they
support the PCs include those aged 65+ (45%), earning $60,000-$80,000 (42%) or
the most wealthy (39%), with some college/university (38%) or a
college/university degree (41%), and living in North York (44%) or Etobicoke
(42%).
Respondents most likely to say they support
the Liberals include females (36%), the least wealthy (42%), the least educated
(40%), and living in the Former City of Toronto (38%).
Respondents most likely to say they support
the NDP includes those aged 34 and younger (30%), the least wealthy (28%) or
earning $20,000-$40,000 (34%), with a post-graduate degree (26%), and living
East York (38%).
“The gap between the Liberals and PCs has narrowed once again in Toronto,” said Dr. Lorne Bozinoff,
President of Forum Research. “While the Liberals would much prefer to lead in
Toronto, where they desperately need to win most of the seats to have any hope
of forming a government, narrowing the gap could be a victory, for now. For the
PCs, though, even a tie with the Liberals in their Fortress Toronto should be
heartening, as stealing seats from the Liberals here all but guarantees a Progressive
Conservative Government.”
