NDP Platform Proposals see some support

Toronto, April 19th -  In a random sampling of public opinion taken by The Forum Poll™ among 1126 Ontario voters, half (TOP2: 50%) say they support the NDP proposal to increase taxes on high income earners, with a third (34%) saying they approve strongly.

A third (BTM2: 34%) say they disapprove, with one-fifth saying they (20%) disapprove strongly.

Just under one-sixth (13%) say they neither approve nor disapprove, while few (3%) say they do not know.

Surcharge on vehicles supported

4 in 10 (TOP2: 43%) say they approve of the 3% surcharge on vehicles that cost over $90,000, with a third (30%) saying they approve strongly.

Just over a third (BTM2: 38%) say they disapprove, with more than a quarter (27%) saying they disapprove strongly.

One-sixth (16%) say they neither approve nor disapprove, while few (3%) say they do not know.

Opinion divided on child care

4 in 10 (TOP2: 41%) say they support subsidized, $12 per day child care, with a quarter (25%) saying they approve strongly.

Just over a third (BTM2: 38%) say they disapprove of the child care, with a quarter (26%) saying they disapprove strongly.

One-sixth (17%) say they neither approve nor disapprove, while few (4%) say they do not know.

Converting student loans to grants supported

Almost half (TOP2: 47%) say they approve of converting the provincial portion of student loans into grants that don’t have to be repaid, with almost 4 in 10 (38%) saying they approve strongly.

Almost 4 in 10 (BTM2: 38%) say they disapprove of this conversion, with a quarter (24%) saying they disapprove strongly.

About 1 in 10 (12%) say they neither approve nor disapprove, while few (3%) say they do not know.

 

 “A number of the proposals put forward by the NDP are well supported, with the income tax on the wealthy and the student loan conversion into grants particularly popular,” said Dr. Lorne Bozinoff, President of Forum Research. "The NDP has received some positive reviews of their platform so far, if they can gain momentum leading into the campaign it will lend credibility to their chances, certainly.”
