Majority concerned refugees will get preferential
immigration treatment
Concern highest among Conservative
voters
TORONTO
December 8th, 2015 - In a random sampling of public opinion taken by
the Forum Poll™ among 1369 Canadian voters, more than half are concerned Syrian
refugees invited to Canada will get preferential treatment in the immigration
queue (54%), and one third are “very” concerned (34%).
A
higher level of concern is characteristic of the mid aged (45 to 54 - 60%), the
least wealthy (63%), in Alberta (69%) and among Conservative voters (80%) and
among the least educated (66%), but not among the best educated (post grad -
37%).
“Canadians
are compassionate, but also strictly fair, and we hate queue jumpers. There is
a sense that these refugees are getting into Canada ahead of some other groups
who may have been waiting as long, and that has an effect,” said Forum Research
President, Dr. Lorne Bozinoff.
