Party with 24 point lead over NDP
Support highest among youngest
TORONTO March 8th
- In a random
sampling of public opinion taken by the Forum Poll™ among 904 Saskatchewan
voters, close to 6-in-10 will vote for the Saskatchewan party in the upcoming
provincial election (57%), while one third will vote NDP (33%). The Liberals
(7%) and the Greens (3%) do not contend.
Support
for the Saskatchewan party is typical of the youngest (63%), males (61%) rather
than females (53%), among the wealthy ($80K to $100K - 68%), in rural north and
south Saskatchewan (61% and 64%, respectively) rather than in Regina (52%) or
Saskatoon (50%), among the parents of children under 18 (62%) and among the
least educated (62%).
Saskatchewan Party supermajority seen
If
these results are projected up to seats in the 61 seat legislature, the
Saskatchewan Party would claim 52, or 85% of the seats, to 9 seats for the
NDP.
Wall matches his party’s popularity, Broten underperforms
Premier Brad Wall has the approval of close
to 6-in-10 voters (58%), almost the same as the level of electoral support his
party receives. His net favourability (approve minus disapprove) is a very
positive +25. Cam Broten has the approval of just more than a quarter of voters
(28%), less than his party’s voter preference, and his net score is a negative
-11.
Wall clearly seen as best Premier
More than one half of voters see Brad Wall
as making the best Premier (55%), compared to about half this proportion who
select Cam Broten (19%). Once again, Wall performs as strongly as his party on
this measure, while Broten underperforms his party.
Close to half agree with provincially-owned plane
Close to one half of voters agree that the
Premier and cabinet should have access to a private plane for provincial
business (47%), while just fewer disagree they should have this perq (40%).
About one tenth have no opinion (13%). The idea of the plane is most popular
among the mid aged (45 to 54 - 54%), males (57%) rather than females (37%),
among the wealthiest (60%) and in Regina (53%).
“It is not surprising in the least to
see Premier Wall in such a commanding position a month before the election. He
is known as Canada’s most popular provincial premier, and he matches his
party’s appeal personally. Cam Broten, on the other hand, does not appear to be
able to rise to even his party’s limited appeal in the province," said Forum Research President, Dr.
