Mulcair should resign – one fifth of NDP supporters
Just one third of Canadians think he should stay
TORONTO April 6th, 2016 - In a random sampling of public opinion taken by the Forum Poll™ among 1455 Canadian voters, one third agree Tom Mulcair should step down as NDP leader (32%), while just more than this disagree (36%). A similar proportion don’t know (32%). Agreement Mulcair should resign is common to the youngest (37%), males (35%), the wealthiest ($100K to $250K - 40%), equally in Atlantic Canada (41%), the prairies (42%) and Alberta (41%), among Conservatives (40%), parents of Children (37%) and the best educated (post grad - 35%). Of note, just less than a quarter of New Democrats agree he should step down (22%), while just more than half think he shouldn’t (56%). About one quarter don’t have an opinion (22%). Given that the support figure being discussed for the upcoming leadership review is about 70%, this may prove a problem for Mulcair.
“Just more than half the party supporting your leadership is hardly the ringing endorsement Tom Mulcair needs to win at the convention on April 8,” said Forum Research President, Dr. Lorne Bozinoff.
