Two thirds approve of abortion pill
TORONTO August
2nd, 2015 In a random sampling of public opinion taken by the Forum
Poll™ among 1399 Canadian adults, two thirds (62%) approve of the “abortion
pill” RU 486 being approved for use in Canada, while fewer than one fifth
disapprove(18%). As many as a fifth don’t have an opinion (20%).
Approval is
notably higher among the wealthiest ($100K to $250K - 74%) and lower among the
least wealthy (47%) but, apart from this, is remarkably consistent and
maintains majority support across regions, demographics and political
preference.
Incidence of
disapproval is highest among the least wealthy (less than $20K - 28%), in
Alberta (25%), among Conservatives (27%) and those who think Stephen Harper
makes the best Prime Minister (30%).
"We don’t have the
culture wars over abortion in Canada that exist in the US, but no one here
wants to see more of them. The public recognizes RU 486 is a way to safely
terminate a pregnancy early, without resorting to a traditional D&C," said Forum Research
President, Dr. Lorne Bozinoff.
