Chow holds strong as front runner in mayor race

Saunders drops to distant second

Toronto, May 21st, 2023 – In a random sampling of public opinion taken by The Forum Poll™ among 1000 Toronto residents, Olivia Chow continues to hold the lead in the upcoming mayoral election with support from 34% of decided and leaning voters. Despite a 2% drop since the previous week, support for Chow stands nearly three times higher than for any other candidate.

 

In second place, support for Mark Saunders among decided and leaning voters stands at 12%, a drop of 6% from the previous week. Josh Matlow remains at third with 12% support, up 2% from the previous week. About 1 in 5 of those surveyed (20%) remain undecided.

“Chow’s lead remains untouchable,” said Dr. Lorne Bozinoff, President of Forum Research. “Other candidates have yet to connect strongly with voters.”

 

Among those surveyed, the most important issues in the mayoral election are housing affordability (26%) and the cost of living & inflation (23%), consistent with the previous week.                                                                                   

The poll was conducted by Forum Research with the results based on an interactive voice response telephone survey of 1000 randomly selected Toronto residents over the age of 18, 70% by cellphone and 30% on landlines. The poll was conducted on May 19th, 2023. Results based on the total sample are considered accurate +/- 3%, 19 times out of 20. Subsample and regional results will be less accurate.
