Disapproval
highest among young, high-income males
In a random sampling of public opinion taken by the Forum
Poll™ among 923 Toronto voters, one half disapprove of city council's ban on
all-ages electronic dance music events at The Ex (50%), and disapproval is
highest among the youngest (63%), males (56%) and those in the highest income
brackets ($100K to $250K - 64%). Supporters of Karen Stintz for mayor are
especially likely to disapprove of the ban (caution, small base size).
One
quarter approves of the ban (25%), and approval is higher among Gen X (45 to 54
- 34%), lower income groups ($20K to $40K - 31%), and in Scarborough (33%).
Mothers of children under 18 are no more likely than others to approve of the
ban (23%).
“For
the most part, we don't see a groundswell of opinion against these events, and
most parents probably realize they are relatively innocuous. It appears council
allowed itself to be swayed by fear in this case, rather than facts," said
Forum Research President, Dr. Lorne Bozinoff.
