Tory’s Approval Steady
Toronto, April
11th, 2019 - In a random sampling of public opinion taken by the
Forum Poll™ among 1110 Torontonians 18 years of age or older, more than half (57%) say they approve
of the job John Tory is doing as mayor, which is unchanged since January (Jan
31: 56%).
He sees
disapproval from a quarter (27%), which is also unchanged from January (Jan 31:
24%).
One-sixth (16%)
say they don’t know whether they approve or disapprove of the job Tory is doing
as mayor.
Respondents
most likely to say they approve of the job John Tory is doing as Mayor include
those aged 55-64 (65%) or 65+ (67%), females (60%), earning $40,000-$60,000
(65%) or $60,000-$80,000 (68%), living in North York (60%), Etobicoke (60%), or
Scarborough (57%), and with some college/university (60%) or a post-graduate
degree (63%).
“Post-election John
Tory is in an enviable position,” said Dr. Lorne Bozinoff, President of Forum
Research. “He won a massive victory, he seems relaxed and at ease in the
mayoralty, and he has no obvious challengers vying to replace him. What will be
interesting to watch is how the mayor navigates the challenging files he shares
with the provincial and federal governments over the next few years, and how
his approval tracks in response.”
