Chow remains first choice in mayor race

Support grows for Saunders, drops for Matlow

Toronto, May 15th, 2023 – In a random sampling of public opinion taken by The Forum Poll among 1029 Toronto residents, Olivia Chow holds the lead in the upcoming mayoral election with support from 36% of decided and leaning voters, up 3% from the previous week. Support for Mark Saunders rose to 18%, while Josh Matlow and Mitzie Hunter are tied for third at 10% among decided and leaning voters. About 1 in 5 if those surveyed (20%) remain undecided.

“Chow has a considerable lead over other candidates,” said Dr. Lorne Bozinoff, President of Forum Research. “However, with six weeks until election day, anything may happen.”

 

Among those surveyed, the most important issues in the mayoral election are housing affordability (25%) and the cost of living & inflation (19%), consistent with the previous week.                  

The poll was conducted by Forum Research with the results based on an interactive voice response telephone survey of 1029 randomly selected Toronto residents over the age of 18, 71% by cellphone and 29% on landlines. The poll was conducted on May 13th, 2023. Results based on the total sample are considered accurate +/- 3%, 19 times out of 20. Subsample and regional results will be less accurate.
